A group of apprentices from C&P Engineering have raised an incredible £1575 in memory of their friend and colleague, Ryan Gray, who tragically passed away at the young age of 28.
Ryan, a first-year apprentice, was not just a co-worker – he was a true friend to those around him. Known for his kind heart, hardworking nature, and uplifting presence, Ryan brought energy, laughter, and generosity to every room he walked into. His sudden passing has left a deep void within the company, with colleagues, friends, and mentors alike mourning the loss of someone who had already made such a lasting impact.
In the wake of their grief, Ryan’s fellow apprentices – many of whom were close friends who worked alongside him daily – came together to honour his memory. Wanting to celebrate Ryan’s life while supporting his partner Ellie and their 18-month-old son, Georgie, they independently organised a JustGiving campaign and a sponsored walk – a powerful tribute to a friend gone too soon.
Sponsored Walk
On 8th March, apprentices took on a sponsored walk along the scenic Swansea coastline, beginning at Swansea Dockers Club, making their way to Mumbles, passing the Big Apple, and continuing to Langland. From there, they headed down to Underhill Park, before finishing back at Swansea Dockers Club, covering approximately 10 miles in total. The route, chosen for its stunning coastal views and accessibility, allowed the apprentices to engage with the local community and raise awareness. Armed with donation buckets, they collected contributions along the way, explaining why they wanted to do something meaningful in his honour.
In true Ryan spirit, the group also took time to stop at a few local pubs along the route, raising a glass in his honour and sharing stories about their friend. The walk was not only about fundraising but also about coming together to celebrate Ryan’s life, just as he would have wanted – surrounded by mates, sharing laughs, and supporting one another.
A Donation of Love and Generosity
Their independent efforts resulted in an incredible £1575 raised, offering much-needed financial support for Ellie and little Georgie during this difficult time. The apprentices have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated, shared, and supported the fundraiser, ensuring Ryan’s memory lives on. Their compassion, initiative, and dedication have been a shining example of what true friendship looks like.
On behalf of everyone who knew and loved Ryan, thank you to those who have donated and shared their support.
